Maria Rubia: The Voice the Charts Never Let Go

The second in our series of deeper dives into the Big Bang roster. Maria Rubia is a platinum-charting vocalist with number 1 hits across multiple countries, a songwriter, television presenter, radio host and showbiz reporter, and an artist in the middle of a genuine comeback.

Some artists have a moment. A much smaller number have a song that refuses to leave, and Maria Rubia is one of them. The track that made her name has returned to the top ten twice in the past four years, alongside the likes of Drake, Sigma and Justin Timberlake, with no re-release campaign behind it. It went viral on TikTok with a new generation, has been used on Love Island and EastEnders, and she now draws 1.4 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.

Now she is back in the studio with Fragma, back on the biggest platforms in dance music, and back on stage.

Right now: the comeback in motion

This is not a heritage booking. In June, Maria reunited with Fragma for “Don’t Start To Cry”, released on 12 June on Soundness Records, and the track was picked up by Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance, the most influential platform in trance. A second single, “Let Me Breathe”, lands in early September 2026.

She performed the new single at the Cannes Film Festival, on a bill alongside ELO’s Bev Bevan and Sister Sledge’s Debbie, with an audience that included Dieter Wiesner, Michael Jackson’s former manager, among other artists and royalty. She has festival dates worldwide across the summer, a prestigious event in New York in September, and a steady run of international radio interviews.

She is also in the studio across a range of genres: pop, pop dance, drum and bass, ballads, light opera crossover, EDM, and Spanish-language material for the Latin market. Book her now and you are booking an artist mid-story, with new music landing across the season.

The song that never went away

“Everytime You Need Me” reached number 3 in the UK in 2001, spent eleven weeks on the chart and earned Maria and Fragma silver, gold and platinum discs, with the video becoming one of the most played on MTV at over 52 million views. It went to number 1 in several countries, and was featured in the Guinness Book of Records for the sales success of the record.

Most hits from that era live on in throwback sets. This one keeps coming back on its own. A global TikTok trend returned it to the UK charts at number 9 in 2022, alongside Drake and Sigma, and it reached number 11 in the 2025 Dance Charts. For a promoter, that is the point. The room does not just remember this record. The under-25s in the room know it too.

The wider catalogue

The Fragma record opened the door, and Maria walked through it. Her solo single “Say It“, which she wrote herself, charted in the UK top 40 in 2001 with no promotion behind it. “Forever and a Day” with Double N followed in 2002, going to number 1 in Denmark and top 5 elsewhere as the official theme for the Big Brother franchise, and “Here Comes the Rain Again” with Akyra came in 2003.

She has continued writing, producing and releasing since, including “In My Imagination” in 2005, “Eye of the Storm” in 2022, “Pieces of My Life” in 2023 and “Fallin Hard“, ahead of this year’s Fragma reunion and the two new singles. Across the catalogue: platinum and Billboard chart credits, over 88 million streams worldwide, and 1.4 million monthly Spotify listeners.

The live pedigree

Maria has performed on some of the world’s largest festival stages, sharing bills with artists including Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. She is theatre-trained and sings live across multiple genres, which means the set changes to suit the event: pop ballads for a high-end televised gala, pop dance, EDM, trance and drum and bass for a club floor.

As a live vocal PA she lands a dancefloor from the first bar, because the record she opens with is one the whole room can sing. That works for old school trance nights, house and club events, 90s and 00s retro, festival stages and holiday park weekenders alike.

More than a vocalist

Maria is a genuinely multi-faceted booking. Away from music she is a working television presenter, radio host, showbiz reporter and press and media director, comfortable on camera, on a red carpet and on a microphone between songs. She has modelled for titles including FHM, OK!, Cosmopolitan, Red and Glamour, and is regularly photographed by Getty.

She is multilingual, performing and presenting in English, French, German and Spanish, and makes a point of speaking to audiences in their own language wherever she can. She is currently learning Mandarin ahead of performance offers in China.

Known in the industry as “the girl on the boat”, from the video that took “Everytime You Need Me” around the world, she has a reputation as one of the easiest artists on a bill: no attitude, and as generous with the crew as she is with the fans. For an event that wants a name who can perform, host and make everyone’s day easier, she covers all three.

What she suits

Club nights, old school trance and house events. Festivals and outdoor stages. 90s and 00s retro nights. Holiday park weekenders. Corporate events and award nights, performing, presenting or both. She has recently performed at VIP and VVIP gala events including London Fashion Week, the ICON Awards and the Cannes Film Festival, with more to follow in September, and is recognised by artists and industry alike as a credible international booking. UK and international bookings.
