Solo Acts: The Smart Way to Build a Line-Up

One artist, the anthems everyone knows, and logistics that stay simple. Here are the solo acts on the Big Bang Talent roster, and how to build a bill from them.

A solo act does something a full band cannot. You get the anthem, the recognition and the live moment, from one artist, with a fraction of the cost and complexity. No backline, no full technical rider, no seven people to feed and get on site. For a club night, a holiday park weekender or a retro event, it is often the most efficient booking on the bill.

It is also the most flexible. Book one and you have your headline moment. Book three or four and you have a full retro line-up, at a cost that would not get you a single headline act. Big Bang Talent has been booking solo PAs since 1986, and the roster is deep in exactly the names that work.

90s dance and rave anthems

Rozalla. The voice of “Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)”, a UK number 6 in 1991 and one of the defining rave anthems of the era. Her run continued with “Faith (In the Power of Love)” at number 11 and “Are You Ready to Fly” at number 14. She toured with Michael Jackson in 1992, opening every show on the European leg of his Dangerous Tour, and Billboard has ranked her the 98th most successful dance artist of all time. A genuine rave-era headliner.

Alex Party.
“Don’t Give Me Your Life” reached number 2 in the UK and took the Club Record award at the 1995 Music Week Awards, spending nine weeks in the UK top 10. The voice, and the co-writer, is Shanie Campbell, who performs the act live. She is also current: a 30th anniversary re-release returned the track to number 1 on the Music Week Club Chart, going viral with over three million TikTok views.

Livin’ Joy.
Two of the decade’s biggest house anthems: “Dreamer”, a UK number 1, and “Don’t Stop Movin'”, a UK number 5. Both are euphoric, piano-led vocal house built for a big room. The touring vocalist is Tameko Star, who sang on “Don’t Stop Movin'” and fronts the act live.

Angie Brown.
The voice on Bizarre Inc’s “I’m Gonna Get You”, a UK top 3 and one of the most enduring vocal house records ever made. A formidable live performer with real soul, and a booking that lifts a house floor the moment she opens up.

Trance and euphoric dance

Fragma. One of the biggest names in trance, behind “Toca’s Miracle”, a UK number 1, and “Everytime You Need Me”, a UK number 3. The anthems that define an old school trance night.

Maria Rubia.
The voice of “Everytime You Need Me”, and now managed by Big Bang Talent. A platinum-charting vocalist with over 86 million streams, who has shared festival stages with the likes of Michael Jackson and Jennifer Lopez, and has just reunited with Fragma on their new single “Don’t Start To Cry”. Bookable as a solo vocal PA in her own right.

Entertainers and personalities

Chico. “It’s Chico Time” went to number 1 on the UK Singles Chart in March 2006, off the back of an X Factor run in which Simon Cowell called him a born entertainer. He has since toured Butlins with full 45-minute live sets, which tells you exactly where he lands: holiday parks, family events and any room that wants a personality who works a crowd.

Stevi Ritchie. A sixth-place finisher on The X Factor in 2014 who turned it into a career as an entertainer, going on to Celebrity Big Brother, pantomime and touring the UK holiday camps. A former Pontins Bluecoat, he knows the holiday park circuit from both sides. His set runs through 80s and 90s hits and feel-good floor-fillers. A safe, high-energy booking for parks and family venues.

Build a full line-up from solo acts

This is where solo bookings really earn their keep. Three or four of these names on one bill gives you a genuine retro line-up: Rozalla, Alex Party and Livin’ Joy on a 90s night, or Fragma and Maria Rubia for old school trance. The billing looks like a festival. The budget and the logistics do not.

Combine solo PAs with DJs

Solo acts sit naturally alongside a DJ. The DJ holds the floor across the night, and the live PA lands at peak time as the moment people remember. We supply both sides from the same roster, so the whole night comes from one booking conversation.

More across the roster

The names above are a starting point. We represent more dance vocalists, more 90s and 00s names, and more entertainers across the roster, and we are adding regularly.

Send us your events schedule for the season ahead and we will align the right acts to each night, with fees and availability. Get in touch on 07411 491813 or at bigbangtalent.co.uk.
